Harpal was introduced to us in 2016 through a mutual connection, and began following some of our posts on Instagram. Although she wasn’t ready to invest with us at the time, the seed was planted.

Five years later, Harpal is the proud owner of a Buy to Let (BTL) property in Leeds and has already signed up to purchase a second. We spoke to Harpal about why she chose to work with us and what her journey was like from start to finish.

There was a feeling of trust from the outset, and I felt genuinely reassured that this wasn’t just a numbers game for you

WHAT WERE YOU TRYING TO ACHIEVE WITH THIS INVESTMENT?

We wanted to create an additional passive income stream initially to help fund our daughters through University and then as an asset for retirement. Ultimately, we want financial freedom, so this is part of a bigger plan for our family.

WAS YOUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT IN LINE WITH YOUR EXPECTATIONS?

We are clearing £500 pcm net on this property which is more than the 7% we had expected. This was a very welcome surprise. Additionally, it meant the tenants were drawn to the neutral décor and clean finishing from the refurbishments and were happy to pay extra to secure it.

WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU HAVE TO OVERCOME?

Like many, I was raised in an era when girls weren’t taught or expected to be financially secure which explains why I’ve always been a bit risk averse. Secondly, schools teach us to avoid mistakes and as a result we don’t try if we don’t know we will succeed. Because investing is by its nature risky, many people are reluctant so get left behind. Taking this first step with the encouragement and support of the team at Lifestyle has given me the confidence to do this again and also pursue other sources of passive income.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE IN YOUR PLACE 6 YEARS AGO?

Feel the fear and do it anyway! Don’t procrastinate – the market moves too fast, and you will kick yourself in the future for not taking action sooner.

A simple step like this has ignited so many other positive changes in my life. I’m open to more opportunities and now living with purpose and intent. I have a bigger picture in my mind and a clear 5-year plan in place. Additionally, my network of like-minded-people has grown 😊

WHAT WAS YOUR INVESTMENT EXPERIENCE LIKE BEFORE WORKING WITH US?

am a homeowner but didn’t have many investments outside of traditional savings accounts. Because the process of working with Lifestyle was so smooth and they delivered above my expectations, it gave given me confidence to explore other areas of property investment in addition to BTL as well as other passive investments. I now also invest in Crypto, ForEx and Index Funds 

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS COULD WE MAKE IN THE FUTURE?

There was a bit of a hiccup in communication around the refurbishment and we weren’t sure if everything was completed because one of the team went on maternity leave, but that was understandable and quickly resolved. Other than that, everything went really smooth. I must also add that I found the ‘stage guide’ documents that form part of the Engagement Pack, and the roadmap documents that explain the next steps throughout the process extremely helpful.

WERE THERE ANY OTHER BENEFITS OF OUR SERVICE?

As well as the monthly cashflow, my husband and I have greater clarity on our purpose and the direction we want to take our family in and I’m also having more open conversations about money, financial education and financial freedom with my daughters and the group of young women that I mentor. This has been a huge positive. These conversations are empowering them to ask the right questions to find ways to build their own wealth so that ultimately, they make their own choices and decisions in life.

WHAT DID YOU VALUE MOST ABOUT US?

I valued the honesty and open communication as well as reassurance that no stone would be left unturned. Lifestyle Property People have a very holistic approach in the way they deal with clients. As a first-time investor I knew I was in safe hands.
