Tell us about your previous investment experience?

Before going ahead with the Leeds property, we had been pretty scared to invest in anything because we didn’t know how to go about it, and because we didn’t want to lose our hard-earned money. Investing in London was out of the question as it was completely out of our price range, but the lower property prices in Leeds made us think again.

What motivated you to want to invest in property?

We’ve worked so hard for so many years and obviously we don’t want to keep on working till the day we die. We want to be able to enjoy our retirement and ideally, we’d like it to be stress free. We love going on holiday, eating out and socialising and we don’t want that to stop all that once we eventually cut down our working hours or stop working altogether. For us, property provides something to fall back on and a bit of security.

How else will you benefit from this investment?

To tell you the truth, I missed out on seeing my daughter take her first steps and say her first words because I was out at work most days in our family business. I’d be out from the crack of dawn and wouldn’t get back till 10pm most days, so I haven’t really been present for my wife and daughter as a dad/husband should be.

Now that I’m in a different place, I’m trying to make up for lost time and the passive income provides a good cushion for us – Kalina calls it a security blanket. We had also started thinking about what we could pass down to our daughter in the future, and property seemed like a good asset for her to have. As a worst case, if she needs money to help while she is at university or needs help with the deposit for her first home, we could always sell it.

Were you ever hesitant about investing in a property so far away from home?

Yes, at first, we were anxious about the process, but after speaking to one of Lifestyle’s existing clients, and also talking everything through with the team, we felt reassured – and to be honest, we haven’t had any stress at all. We later even realised that one of our nephews also invests with Lifestyle – what a small world!

What do you think of the returns?

We can see our profit at the end of the year is much more than what we would get from the bank in interest. Now that we’ve got the property, we’re thinking about using the profits to buy another one.
